Simple Guidance for Measuring & Fitting Your TAMdoûr Horizontal Shower Door

For Campervan / RV / Motorhome Installations

Every project is unique, which is why we don’t provide specific fitting instructions. You’ll need some basic DIY skills and careful planning to fit your TAMdoûr door. Below is a simplified guide to help you measure and install your door.

Step 1: Check if the TAMdoûr Will Work for Your Project

How It Works: The TAMdoûr slides on a low-friction track inside the opening, with a top and bottom track. Ensure there’s a 0-0.5mm gap between the door and the top track for smooth sliding.

Height Allowance: When ordering, subtract 3-4mm from your total height to allow for easy adjustments. If the door is slightly too tall, you can trim it.

Trimming the Door:

For small adjustments, trim the top of the door.

For larger adjustments, split the difference by trimming both the top and bottom to keep the handle centred.

  • Follow these steps to trim:
    1. Remove the black part at the end of the aluminium part of the handle.
    2. Measure and note the distance from the aluminium slat to the plastic front cover slat.
    3. Cut the plastic slats to size, then trim the aluminium slat.
    4. Use masking tape to protect the slats and a fine-tooth blade for clean cuts.

Step 2: Measure Your Space

Width: Measure from the inside edge to the far side of the opening. Add 30-50mm for an overhang at the tail end if desired.

Height: Measure the total height, including the track. If your roof slopes, adjust the height to ensure the door can slide fully.

Depth: Ensure there’s enough space inside for the door to slide open. For example, a 600mm wide door requires 560mm of sliding space, leaving the 40mm handle at the opening.

Step 3: Prepare for Installation

Ensure the area is level and free of obstructions. Uneven heights can cause the door to slip out of the track or get stuck. Fix these issues before starting.

Track Placement:

The bottom track should be bonded (not screwed) to the floor or shower tray using adhesive like Sikaflex or CT1.

The top track should align perfectly with the bottom track. Using an adjustable-height batten for the top track is recommended for easier installation and a perfect fit.

Step 4: Install the Door

Prepare the Tracks:

  • Cut the tracks to size.
  • Bond the bottom track to the floor and let it dry overnight.
  • For flexible tracks, shape them as needed and secure them with thin pin nails until the adhesive dries.

Insert the Door:

  • Tilt the door and slide it into the tracks, or attach the top track to a batten and fix it level on top of the door. We recommend using a baton to secure the top track as it can be adjusted over time to always ensure a perfectly fitted door.

Add Finishing Touches:

  • Attach the provided L-shaped trim inside the opening as a door stop.
  • Fix the magnetic tape to the door handle and align it with the trim for a secure close.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure the tracks are perfectly level for smooth sliding.
  • Remove any sharp edges or obstructions inside the space to protect the door.
  • If your door includes a 90-degree turn, ensure the track allows for the bend and provides enough depth for the door to slide fully.
